✧ The Battle of the Camel

وَقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ حَيَّةَ، قَالَ:

خَلَا عَلِيٌّ بِالزُّبَيْرِ ؓ يَوْمَ الْجَمَلِ فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ تَعَالَى، كَيْفَ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ وَأَنْتَ لَاوِي يَدِي فِي سَقِيفَةِ بَنِي فُلَانٍ: لَتُقَاتِلَنَّهُ وَأَنْتَ لَهُ ظَالِمٌ، ثُمَّ لَيُنْصَرَنَّ عَلَيْكَ، فَقَالَ: قَدْ سَمِعْتُ، لَا جَرَمَ، لَا أُقَاتِلُكَ

Translation

✧ 'Ali was alone with al-Zubayr ؓ on the Day of the Camel and said: I adjure you by Allah the Exalted, how did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say while you were twisting my hand in the portico of Banu so-and-so: 'You will indeed fight him while you are an oppressor to him, then he will be given victory over you'? He said: I heard it; no doubt, I will not fight you.
