✧ A group of Quraysh entered upon him, and he said: Shall I not tell you about Abu al-Qasim ﷺ? They said: Yes. He said: Three days before the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Allah sent down to him Gabriel ﷺ, who said: 'O Ahmad, Allah has sent me to you as an honor to you, a favor to you, and specifically for you. I ask you about what He knows better than you. He says: How do you find yourself?' He ﷺ said: 'I find myself, O Gabriel, distressed.' Then he came to him on the second day and mentioned the same thing exactly. Then he came to him on the third day and mentioned the same thing exactly, and added: 'And I find myself, O Gabriel, grieved.' He said: And with Gabriel ﷺ descended an angel in the air called Isma'il, over seventy thousand angels. Gabriel ﷺ said to him: 'O Ahmad, this is the Angel of Death seeking permission to enter upon you. He has never sought permission from any human before you, and he will never seek permission from any human after you.' He said: 'Give him permission.' So Gabriel ﷺ gave him permission. The Angel of Death said to him: 'O Ahmad, Allah, Mighty and Exalted, has sent me to you and commanded me to obey you. If you command me to take your soul, I will take it, and if you dislike it, I will leave it.' Gabriel ﷺ said: 'Allah, Exalted be He, has longed to meet you.' He ﷺ said: 'O Angel of Death, proceed with what you have been commanded.' Gabriel ﷺ said: 'O Ahmad, peace be upon you. This is my last treading of the earth. You were my only need from this world.' When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away and condolence came, a comer came whose sound they heard but whose person they did not see. He said: 'Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. In Allah is consolation for every calamity, a successor for every perished one, and a compensation for everything missed. So trust in Allah and hope in Him. For the deprived is the one deprived of the reward, and the afflicted is the one deprived of the reward. And peace be upon you.' He said: Do you know who this is? This is al-Khidr ﷺ.
