✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ granted safety to the people on the day of the conquest of Makkah except for four people: Abd al-Uzza b. Khatal, Miqyas b. Subabah, Abdullah b. Sa'd, and Umm Sarah. As for Abd al-Uzza b. Khatal, he was killed while clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah. He said: A man from the Ansar vowed to kill Abdullah b. Sa'd if he saw him, and he was Uthman's foster brother. He was brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ to intercede for him. When the Ansari saw him, he took hold of his sword and went to him, but he found him in the circle of the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Ansari kept hesitating and disliked to advance upon him because he was in the circle of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ stretched out his hand and accepted his pledge of allegiance, then he ﷺ said to the Ansari: 'I waited for you to fulfill your vow.' He said: 'O Messenger of God, I was in awe of you. Could you not have signaled to me?' He ﷺ said: 'It is not for a prophet to signal.' He said: As for Miqyas b. Subabah, he had a brother with the Messenger of God ﷺ who was killed by mistake. The Messenger of God ﷺ sent with him a man from Banu Fihr to take his blood money from the Ansar. When the blood money was collected for him and he returned, the Fihri slept, and Miqyas jumped up, took a stone, and struck his head with it, killing him. He then went on saying: 'It healed the soul that the one who spent the night in the open, supported, his two garments stained with the blood of the jugular veins. The anxieties of the soul before killing him used to beset me and make me forget the softness of beds. I killed with him a man of Fihr and paid his blood money to the nobles of Banu al-Najjar, lords of Fari'. With that I fulfilled my vow and achieved my revenge, and I was the first to return to the idols.' As for Umm Sarah: she was a freedwoman of Quraysh. She came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and complained to him of need, so he gave her something. Then a man came to her and sent with her a letter to Makkah... And he mentioned the story of Hatib, as it is in the original.
