✧ The people dispersed from the Messenger of God ﷺ on the night of the confederates, and only twelve men remained with him. The Messenger of God ﷺ came to me while I was crouching from the cold and said: O Ibn al-Yaman, rise and go to the camp of the confederates and observe their situation. I said: O Messenger of God, by the One who sent you with the truth, I only rose to come to you out of shame from the cold. He said: The cold of the harrah and the cold of the sabkhah. He ﷺ said: Go, O Ibn al-Yaman, for no harm will befall you from cold or heat until you return to me. So I went until I came to their camp and found Abu Sufyan lighting a fire among a small group around him, and the confederates had dispersed from him. I came and sat among them. Abu Sufyan sensed that someone not of them had entered their midst, so he said: Let each man take the hand of his neighbor. I struck with my right hand on the one to my right and took his hand, and I struck with my left hand on the one to my left and took his hand. I remained among them for a little while, then I got up and came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was standing praying. He gestured to me with his hand to come close, so I drew near to him until he threw over me part of the garment he was wearing to warm me. When he ﷺ finished his prayer, he said: O Ibn al-Yaman, sit and tell the people. I said: O Messenger of God, the people have dispersed from Abu Sufyan, and only a small group remains lighting a fire. God Almighty has poured upon them cold like that which He poured upon us, but we hope from God what they do not hope.
