✧ The people dispersed from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of the Confederates, and no one remained with him except twelve men. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me while I was crouching from sleep and said: "O Ibn al-Yaman, get up and go to the camp of the Confederates and look at their situation." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I only got up for you out of shyness from the cold." He said: "Go, O Ibn al-Yaman, no harm will befall you from cold or heat until you return to me." So I went until I came to their camp and found Abu Sufyan lighting a fire among a small group around him, while the Confederates had already dispersed from him. I came and sat among them. Abu Sufyan sensed that someone other than his own had entered among them and said: "Let each man of you take the hand of the one sitting next to him." He said: I struck my hand over the one on my right and took his hand, then I struck my hand over the one on my left and took his hand. He said: I stayed among them for a short while, then I got up and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was standing praying. He gestured to me to come closer, so I came closer, then gestured to me to come closer, so I came closer, until he wrapped over me some of the garment he had on to warm me. When he finished his prayer, he said: "O Ibn al-Yaman, sit down. What is the news of the people?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people have dispersed from Abu Sufyan, and no one remains with him except a small group lighting a fire. Allah, Blessed and Exalted, has poured upon them cold like that which He poured upon us, but we hope from Allah what they do not hope."
