✧ Umar ؓ had a debt owed by a Jew, so he came to him to demand it. He met him and Umar said: No, by the One who chose Muhammad ﷺ over all mankind, I will not leave you while I am demanding something from you. The Jew said: By God, He did not choose Muhammad over all mankind. So Umar slapped him. He said: Between me and you is Abu al-Qasim. He said: Umar said: No, by the One who chose Muhammad over all mankind. I said: By God, God did not choose Muhammad over all mankind, so he slapped me. He ﷺ said: As for you, O Umar, compensate him for his slap. Rather, O Jew, Adam is the chosen one of God, Abraham is the friend of God, Moses is the confidant of God, Jesus is the spirit of God, and I am the beloved of God. Rather, O Jew, God the Mighty and Majestic named Himself with two names with which He named my nation: He is al-Salam and He named my nation the Muslims, and He is al-Mu'min and He named my nation the believers. Rather, O Jew, you sought a day that was stored for us. For us is today, for you is tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow is for the Christians. Rather, O Jew, you are the first and we are the last, the foremost on the Day of Resurrection. Rather, Paradise is forbidden to the prophets until I enter it, and it is forbidden to the nations until my nation enters it.
