✧ When Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ was stabbed and ordered the consultation, Hafsah ؓ entered upon him and said: 'O father, the people claim that these six are not approved.' He said ؓ: 'Prop me up.' So they propped him up. He said ؓ: 'What could they possibly say about Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ? I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "O Ali, your hand is in my hand, you will enter with me on the Day of Resurrection wherever I enter." What could they possibly say about Uthman ؓ? I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "On the day Uthman ؓ dies, the angels of heaven will pray over him." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, for Uthman specifically or for all people generally?" He said ﷺ: "For Uthman ؓ specifically." What could they possibly say about Talhah b. Ubayd Allah ؓ? I heard the Prophet ﷺ say one night when his saddle fell: "Who will set my saddle right for me, and he will be in Paradise?" Talhah b. Ubayd Allah ؓ rushed and set it right for him ﷺ until he mounted. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "O Talhah, this is Jibril ﷺ conveying greetings to you and saying: I am with you in the terrors of the Day of Resurrection until I save you from them." What could they possibly say about al-Zubayr b. al-Awwam ؓ? I saw the Prophet ﷺ when he slept, and al-Zubayr ؓ sat fanning away from his face until he woke up. He said to him: "O Abu Abdullah, have you not stopped?" He said ؓ: "I have not stopped, may my father and mother be your ransom." He said ﷺ: "This is Jibril ﷺ conveying greetings to you and saying: I am with you on the Day of Resurrection until I ward off from your face the sparks of the Fire." What could they possibly say about Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas ؓ? I heard the Prophet ﷺ say on the day of Badr, when he had strung his bow fourteen times, as he handed it to him, saying: "Shoot, may my father and mother be your ransom." And what could they possibly say about Abd al-Rahman b. Awf ؓ? I saw the Prophet ﷺ in the house of Fatimah ؓ, while al-Hasan and al-Husayn ؓ were crying from hunger and writhing. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Who will bring us something?" Then Abd al-Rahman b. Awf ؓ came with a platter containing a dish of dates mixed with butter and two loaves between which there was fat. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "May Allah the Exalted suffice you in the affair of your worldly life; as for the affair of your Hereafter, I guarantee it for you."
