أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ الْعُطَاسَ وَيَكْرَهُ التَّثَاؤُبَ فَإِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَحْمَدِ اللهَ فَإِنَّ حَقًّا عَلَى مَنْ سَمِعَهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ يَرْحَمُكَ اللهُ وَأَمَّا التَّثَاؤُبُ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِذَا تَثَاءَبَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَرُدَّهُ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ فَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا قَالَ هَاهْ هَاهْ ضَحِكَ الشَّيْطَانُ مِنْهُ خَالَفَهُ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْجَرْمِيُّ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed Allah loves sneezing and dislikes yawning. When one of you sneezes, let him praise Allah, for it is a duty upon the one who hears him to say: ‘May Allah have mercy on you.’ As for yawning, it is only from Satan. When one of you yawns, let him suppress it as much as he can, for when one of you says ‘hah hah,’ Satan laughs at him.” Al-Qāsim b. Yazīd al-Jarmī differed from him.
