  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThis is a hadith that Ibn ʿUyaynah alone narrated from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd and ʿAlī b. Zayd, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from ʿAlī. But the students of Yaḥyā narrate it from Yaḥyā, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from Saʿd, who said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined his parents for me." There is disagreement over Ibn ʿUyaynah regarding its wording. al-Ḥasan b. al-Bazzār and Ḥumayd b. al-Rabīʿ narrated from him with this chain, from ʿAlī: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not combine his parents for anyone except Saʿd." But al-Ḥumaydī and others narrated from Ibn ʿUyaynah: "I did not hear the Prophet ﷺ combine his parents for anyone except Saʿd." This is sounder than the first version, because it is authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he combined his parents for al-Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām.
