✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a military expedition, and Allah Almighty granted it victory and success. Whoever brought something to him, he gave him a share of it after the fifth. Some men returned while others went ahead, took captives, and fought, leaving the spoils behind them and did not obtain any of the spoils. They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about men among us who went ahead and took captives, while other men stayed behind and did not engage in fighting, yet you gave them a share of the spoils?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent, then Jibril ﷺ came down with: 'They ask you about the spoils of war. Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and the Messenger. So fear Allah and set things right among yourselves.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called them and said: 'Return what you have taken, and distribute it among yourselves with fairness and equality.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we have already spent and eaten.' He said: 'Then count that as your share.'
