✧ We were in the land of the Romans when a man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, from Banu Sulaym, called Maʿn b. Yazid al-Sulami, passed by us. He said, 'I found a red jar containing dinars, so I brought it to him. He took out a fifth and said, "Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'No spoil is given except after the fifth,' I would have given it to you." Then he offered me some of his share, but I said, "I have no need of it."'
