✧ Mu'awiya mentioned fleeing from the plague in a sermon, and 'Ubada b. al-Samit ؓ said: 'You have lied! Your mother Hind knows better than you.' Then he prayed, and then he sent for 'Ubada ؓ, and the Ansar gathered around him, so he detained them. 'Ubada ؓ entered, and Mu'awiya said to him: 'Do you not fear God, Exalted is He, and feel ashamed before your leader? You called me a liar on the pulpit?' 'Ubada ؓ said: 'Do you not know that I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ on the Night of al-'Aqaba, that I would not fear the blame of any blamer for the sake of God? So how about when I have called it a lie against God, Exalted is He?' Then Mu'awiya came out at the time of 'Asr prayer and prayed. Then he took hold of the leg of the pulpit and said: 'O people, I mentioned a hadith to you on the pulpit, and 'Ubada ؓ called me a liar. I entered the house and asked, and found that the hadith is as 'Ubada had narrated to me. So take from him, for he is more knowledgeable than I.'
