✧ I rented out Abd Allah b. Jarir for the Hajj. He came to Umar ؓ, and Umar asked him about things. Among what he asked was: "How did you find your wives?" He said, "O Commander of the Faithful, I cannot kiss any of them on a day that is not her day without her accusing me, and I do not go out for an errand without her saying, 'You were with so-and-so, you were with so-and-so.'" Umar ؓ said, "Many of them do not believe in Allah and do not trust the believers. Perhaps one of them is in need, or goes to the market to buy something for one of them, and she accuses him." Ibn Mas'ud ؓ said, "O Commander of the Faithful, did you not know that Ibrahim, the Friend of the Merciful, complained to Allah Almighty about sharpness in Sarah's character, and He said to him, 'The woman is like a rib; if you leave her, she remains crooked, and if you straighten her, she breaks. So enjoy her despite her faults.'" Umar ؓ struck Ibn Mas'ud ؓ between his shoulders and said, "Allah has placed in your heart, O Ibn Mas'ud, no small amount of knowledge."
