وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ، أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَمَّتِي قَرِيبَةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ وَهْبِ بْنِ زَمْعَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّهَا كَرِيمَةَ بِنْتِ الْمِقْدَادِ، عَنْ ضُبَاعَةَ بِنْتِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ؓ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ: شَيْءٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْكَ شَكَكْتُ فِيهِ، قَالَ: إِذَا شَكَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْأَمْرِ فَلْيَسْأَلْنِي عَنْهُ. قَالَ: قَوْلُكَ فِي أَزْوَاجِكَ: إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو لَهُنَّ مِنْ بَعْدِي الصِّدِّيقِينَ. قَالَ: مَنْ تَعْنُونَ بِالصِّدِّيقِينَ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْنَا: أَوْلَادُنَا الَّذِينَ يَهْلِكُونَ صِغَارًا. قَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنَّ الصِّدِّيقِينَ هُمُ الْمُتَصَدِّقُونَ

✧ I said to the Prophet ﷺ: 'Something I heard from you, I doubted it.' He said: 'When one of you doubts a matter, let him ask me about it.' He said: 'Your saying about your wives: I hope for them after me the truthful ones.' He said: 'Whom do you mean by the truthful ones?' He said: 'We said: Our children who die young.' He said: 'No, but the truthful ones are the charitable ones.'
