✧ The Prohibition of Reviling the Dead and the Encouragement to Speak Well of Them

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْوَكِيعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ -:

مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَمُوتُ فَيَشْهَدُ لَهُ أَرْبَعَةُ أَهْلِ أَبْيَاتٍ مِنْ جِيرَانِهِ الْأَدْنَيْنِ أَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا خَيْرًا، إِلَّا قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى: قَدْ قَبِلْتُ عِلْمَكُمْ، وَغَفَرْتُ لَهُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Translation

✧ There is no Muslim who dies and four people from the households of his closest neighbors testify that they know nothing but good from him, except that Allah, Exalted be He, says: “I have accepted your knowledge, and I have forgiven him for what you do not know.”
