In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Jawzī

machine translationHe included it among the fabricated reports (al-mawḍūʿāt).

  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim was afflicted most by this ḥadīth; they held it against him.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim was alone in narrating it, and it is one of the things for which he was criticized.

  • al-Khaṭīb al-Baghdādī

machine translationThis ḥadīth is among those that the people rejected (ankara) of ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim, and most of what they said about him was because of it.

machine translationIbrāhīm b. Muslim al-Khwārizmī narrated it from Wakīʿ, from Qays b. al-Rabīʿ, from Muḥammad b. Sūqah, and Ibrāhīm b. Muslim was mentioned by Ibn Ḥibbān in al-Thiqāt, and no one spoke against him. Qays b. al-Rabīʿ is truthful (ṣadūq) though he has been spoken against, but his ḥadīth supports the narration of ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim and takes it out of being weak and flimsy (wāhin), let alone fabricated (mawḍūʿ).

  • ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Jawzī

machine translationIt is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).

machine translationThe people rejected (ankara) this ḥadīth of Ibn Sūqah from ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim, and the weakness in ʿAlī's ḥadīth is clear.

machine translationA rejected (munkar) Kūfan ḥadīth, which they consider to have no basis, whether as a connected (musnad) or a stopped (mawqūf) report.

  • ʿAlī al-Madīnī

machine translationHe used to make mistakes in ḥadīth and narrated rejected (munkar) ḥadīths.

machine translationThe weakness (ḍaʿf) is evident in his hadith, [due to] ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim.

machine translationThis is a rejected (munkar) Kūfan ḥadīth which they consider to have no basis. We do not know anyone who reported it as connected (musnad) or as stopped (mawqūf) other than ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim. Abū Bakr al-Nahshalī, who is truthful (ṣadūq) but weak in ḥadīth, narrated it from Muḥammad b. Sūqah and did not take it beyond Muḥammad, and said, "He raises the ḥadīth." Yaʿqūb said: This ḥadīth is among the greatest of what the people rejected (ankara) of ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim, and they spoke against him for it, in addition to what else was rejected of him.

machine translationNo trustworthy (thiqah) narrator corroborated him in it.

  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationWhat is well known is that it is from the narration of ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim, and he was declared weak because of it.
