Translation
✧ The Expedition of Waddān, which was the first of his expeditions (peace and blessings be upon him). Abū ʿAmr said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained in Madinah for the rest of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, the month in which he arrived, and the rest of that entire year until Ṣafar, of the year two of the Hijrah. Then he went forth on an expedition in Ṣafar, and his banner was carried by Ḥamzah b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib; it was a white banner. He appointed over Madinah—according to what Abū Saʿd and Abū ʿUmar said—Saʿd b. ʿUbādah. He went out with the Muhājirūn, none of them being an Anṣārī, to intercept a caravan belonging to Quraysh. Ibn Isḥāq said: until he reached Waddān, which is the expedition of al-Abwāʾ—Ibn Jarīr said it is also called the expedition of Waddān—intending Quraysh and the Banū Ḍamrah b. Bakr b. ʿAbd Manāh b. Kinānah. Banū Ḍamrah made peace with him therein. The one who made peace with him from among them was Makhshī b. ʿAmr al-Ḍamrī, who was their chief in that time, on the condition that he would not raid Banū Ḍamrah, nor would they raid him, nor would they augment a force against him, nor aid any enemy against him. He wrote a document between himself and them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned to Madinah without meeting any warfare, and he remained there for the rest of Ṣafar and the beginning of the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal. . His absence was fifteen nights.
