The Detachment of ʿUbayda b. al-Ḥārith b. al-Muṭṭalib b. ʿAbd Manāf ᴿᴬ to Baṭn Rābigh
سِرِّيَّةُ عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ إِلَى بَطْنِ رَابِغٍ وَهِيَ أَوَّلُ رَايَةٍ يَعْقِدُهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَتْ فِي السَّنَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ مِنَ الْهِجْرَةِ وَكَانَ اللِّوَاءُ أَبْيَضَ يَحْمِلُهُ مِسْطَحُ بْنُ أُثَاثَةَ فِي سِتِّينَ أَوْ ثَمَانِينَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، فَخَرَجَ فَلَقِيَ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ فِي مِائَتَيْنِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَلَى مَاءٍ قُرْبَ رَابِغٍ، فَكَانَ بَيْنَهُمُ الرَّمْيُ وَلَمْ يُسَلُّوا سَيْفًا، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَهُمْ قِتَالٌ، وَقَدْ فَرَّ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ إِلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَهْرَانِيُّ، وَعُتْبَةُ بْنُ غَزْوَانَ الْمَازِنِيُّ.
Translation
✧ The Detachment of ʿUbayda b. al-Ḥārith b. al-Muṭṭalib b. ʿAbd Manāf ؓ to Baṭn Rābigh This was the first banner which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tied, and it took place in the second year of the Hijra. The standard was white, carried by Misṭaḥ b. Uthātha, with sixty or eighty of the Muhājirūn. He set out and encountered Abū Sufyān with two hundred of his companions at a watering place near Rābigh. There was an exchange of arrows between them, but they did not draw swords, and there was no fighting between them. Al-Miqdād b. ʿAmr al-Bahrānī and ʿUtba b. Ghazwān al-Māzinī fled from the disbelievers to the Muslims.
