The story of the creation of Adam (peace be upon him)

Translation

✧ What happened while Adam was on earth Among that is that Adam, when he descended, complained of his condition: Abū Ṣāliḥ related from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: When God—Mighty and Majestic—saw the nakedness of Adam and Eve, He commanded him to slaughter a ram from the sheep [from] the eight pairs. So he slaughtered it, then took its wool, and Eve spun it, and Adam wove a jubba for himself and made for Eve a dirʿ and a khimār, and they wore that. It was said: He sent to them an angel to teach them what to wear from the skins of sheep and cattle. It was said: That was the clothing of his children, but as for him and Eve, their clothing was what they had stitched from the leaves of Paradise. Then He sent down to him afterwards the anvil, the hammer, and the tongs. He looked at a rod growing from iron, took it, and began breaking trees that had dried up with the hammer, then lit a fire on that branch until it melted. [The first thing] he struck was a knife, which he worked with. Then he struck the oven that Noah inherited, and the wild beasts fled from it to the land. Their clothing was from the skins of sheep and beasts of prey. Al-Ḍaḥḥāk related from Ibn ʿAbbās: Gabriel brought Adam the shears and commanded him to shear the sheep. He did so, and Eve spun it and Adam wove it, and he made for himself an ʿabāʾa and another for Eve. ʿAṭāʾ related from Ibn ʿAbbās: Gabriel brought Adam the two bulls and yoked them for him and commanded him to cultivate. Saʿīd b. Jubayr related from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: He taught Adam the craft of iron, and he was commanded to till. He tilled and sowed, then watered until when it was ripe he harvested it, then threshed it, then ground it, then kneaded it, then baked it, then ate it. He did not finish eating it until there befell him what God willed to befall him. Saʿīd said: A red bull was sent down to Adam, and he used to plow with it and wipe the sweat from his forehead. Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭabarī related from others, who said: Adam became hungry and asked his Lord for food. Gabriel came to him with seven grains of wheat and placed them in his hand. He said: What do I do with this? He said: Leave it in the earth. He did so, and God caused it to sprout immediately. Then He commanded him and he harvested it, then He commanded him and he gathered it and rubbed it with his hand, then He commanded him to winnow it. Then He brought him two stones and he ground it, then He commanded him to bake it as a malla. [If he kneaded it.] Gabriel gathered for him the stone and the iron and struck it, and fire came out. He was the first to bake the malla.
