Translation
✧ The reason for ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib's marrying his son ʿAbd Allāh to a woman from Banū Zuhrah Ibn Saʿd, Ibn al-Barqī, al-Ṭabarānī, al-Ḥākim, and Abū Nuʿaym narrated from al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, from his father, who said: We came to Yemen on the winter journey, and I stopped at a Jewish scholar. A man from the people of the Zabūr—meaning the scripture—said to me: "From what people is the man?" I said: "From Quraysh." He said: "From which of them?" I said: "From Banū Hāshim." He said: "Will you permit me to look at some part of you?" I said: "Yes, as long as it is not private." He said: He opened one of my nostrils and looked into it, then looked into the other, and said: "I bear witness that in one of your hands there is kingship and in the other prophethood, and we find that among Banū Zuhrah, so how is that?" I said: "I do not know." He said: "Do you have a shāʿah?" I said: "What is the shāʿah?" He said: "The wife." I said: "As for today, no." He said: "When you return, marry from among them." So when ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib returned to Makkah, he married Hālah bt. Uhayb b. ʿAbd Manāf, and he married his son ʿAbd Allāh to Āminah bt. Wahb, and she bore him the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then Quraysh said: ʿAbd Allāh outshone his father. Al-shāʿah: with a dotted shīn and an undotted ʿayn: the wife, so called because she follows the husband; and shīʿat al-rajul are his followers and supporters. Falaja with an opening on its first and second letters: he attained what he sought. Al-Bayhaqī and Abū Nuʿaym narrated from Ibn Shihāb, may God Almighty have mercy on him, who said: ʿAbd Allāh was the most handsome man ever seen. One day he went out among the women of Quraysh, and a woman among them said: "Which of you will marry this youth and draw into herself the light that is between his eyes? For I see between his eyes a light." So Āminah bt. Wahb married him. Taṣṭabbu: she pours and receives. Al-Zubayr b. Bakkār narrated that Sawdah bt. Zuhrah b. Kilāb, the priestess, said one day to Banū Zuhrah: "Among you there is a warner, or you will give birth to a warner; so present your daughters to me." They were presented to her, and she said about each one of them a saying that became evident after a time, until they presented Āminah bt. Wahb to her, and she said: "This one is the warned one, or she will give birth to a warner of great importance and a shining proof." And when she was asked about Hell, she said: "The warner will inform you about it."
