Translation
✧ Mention of the transfer of some of the Ṣinhāja from Ifrīqiyya to al-Andalus and what they did In this year, the sons of Zīrī b. Manād—namely Zāwī, Jalāla, and Māksan, the brothers of Bulukkīn—moved to al-Andalus. The reason for that was that wars and fighting broke out between them and their brother Ḥammād over lands among them, and Ḥammād defeated them. So they headed to Tangier, and from there to Cordoba. Muḥammad b. Abī ʿĀmir lodged them and was delighted with them, assigned them stipends, honored them, and asked them about the reason for their move. They informed him and said to him: "We chose you over others, and we loved to be with you, striving in the way of God." He considered that good from them, made them promises, and gave them gifts, so they stayed for some days. Then they entered upon him and asked him to fulfill what he had promised them of raiding. He said: "See what troops you desire, we will give you." They said: "None shall enter the enemy's lands with us except our own, along with those with us of our paternal cousins, the Ṣinhāja, and our clients." So he gave them horses, weapons, and funds, and sent a guide with them. The route was narrow. They came to the land of Galicia and entered it at night, lay in ambush in a garden near the city, killed everyone in it, and cut down its trees. When morning came, a group from the town came out, attacked them, seized them, and killed them all, then returned. The enemy heard of it, and they rode in their tracks. When they sensed that, they lay in wait behind a hill. When the enemy passed them, they came out against them from behind, struck their rearguard, and shouted "Allāhu akbar." When the enemy heard their takbīr, they thought the number was great, so they fled. The Ṣinhāja pursued them, killed many people, plundered their mounts and weapons, and returned to Cordoba. That became great in the eyes of Ibn Abī ʿĀmir, and he saw of their bravery what he had not seen from the troops of al-Andalus, so he treated them well and made them his inner circle.
