Translation

✧ Mention of ʿAḍud al-Dawlah's seizure of Jurjān In this year, in Jumādā al-Ākhirah, ʿAḍud al-Dawlah seized the lands of Jurjān and Ṭabaristān, and expelled their ruler Qābūs b. Washmakīr. The reason for this was that when ʿAḍud al-Dawlah seized the lands of his brother Fakhr al-Dawlah, Fakhr al-Dawlah fled and joined Qābūs, as we have mentioned. This reached ʿAḍud al-Dawlah, so he sent to Qābūs offering him generous inducements of lands, wealth, covenants, and other things, in exchange for handing over his brother Fakhr al-Dawlah. Qābūs refused that and did not agree to it. So ʿAḍud al-Dawlah equipped his brother Muʾayyid al-Dawlah and dispatched him with armies, wealth, and equipment to Jurjān. The news reached Qābūs, so he marched to meet him. He encountered him in the outskirts of Astarābādh, and they fought from morning until noon. Qābūs and his companions were defeated in Jumādā al-Ūlā. Qābūs went to one of his fortresses, which contained his treasures and wealth, took what he wanted, and set out toward Naysābūr. When he arrived there, Fakhr al-Dawlah joined him, and those of their companions who had dispersed gathered with them. Their arrival there occurred during the governorship of Ḥusām al-Dawlah Abū al-ʿAbbās Tāsh over Khurāsān. Ḥusām al-Dawlah wrote to the Amir Abū al-Qāsim Nūḥ b. Manṣūr informing him of their arrival. They also wrote to Nūḥ informing him of their situation and seeking his support against Muʾayyid al-Dawlah. Nūḥ's letters arrived to Ḥusām al-Dawlah commanding him to honor their standing, treat them with respect, assemble the armies, march with them, and restore them to their kingdoms. His vizier Abū al-Ḥusayn also wrote to that effect.
