Translation

✧ Mention of the deposition of al-Mutiʿ and the caliphate of al-Tāʾiʿ li-Llāh In this year, in the middle of Dhu al-Qaʿdah, al-Mutiʿ li-Llāh was deposed. He had hemiplegia, his tongue had become heavy, and movement had become difficult for him, and he was concealing that. His condition became apparent to Subuktikīn this time, so he summoned him to depose himself from the caliphate and hand it over to his son al-Tāʾiʿ li-Llāh, whose name was Abu al-Faḍl ʿAbd al-Karīm. He did so, and he had witnesses testify against himself to the deposition on the thirteenth of Dhu al-Qaʿdah. The duration of his caliphate was twenty-nine years and five months minus some days. Allegiance was pledged to al-Tāʾiʿ li-Llāh for the caliphate, and his authority became established. When allegiance was pledged to al-Tāʾiʿ, he rode wearing the burdah, with Subuktikīn and the army before him. Then, on the following day, he bestowed upon Subuktikīn robes of kings and titled him Naṣr al-Dawlah, and he bound for him the banner of the emirate. When the Feast of Sacrifice arrived, al-Tāʾiʿ rode wearing black, and he gave a short, fine sermon to the people after the prayer. Ibn al-Jawzī related in al-Muntaẓam that al-Mutiʿ li-Llāh was called after his deposition "the excellent shaykh."
