Then the year 362 AH began

Translation

✧ Then the year 362 AH began. Account of the defeat of the Byzantines and the capture of the Domestikos in this year — a battle took place between Hibat Allāh b. Nāṣir al-Dawla b. Ḥamdān and the Domestikos in the region of Mayyāfāriqīn. The reason for it was what we mentioned regarding the Domestikos's raid into the lands of Islam and his plundering of Diyār Rabīʿa and Diyār Bakr. When the Domestikos saw that there was no one to prevent him from his aim, his greed to seize Āmid grew stronger. In it was Hazārmard, the ghulām of Abū al-Hayjāʾ b. Ḥamdān. He wrote to Abū Taghlib seeking his aid and rescue, informing him of the situation. So he sent to him his brother Abū al-Qāsim Hibat Allāh b. Nāṣir al-Dawla. They joined forces to fight the Domestikos and marched to meet him at the end of Ramaḍān. The Domestikos was in large numbers, but they met him in a narrow pass where cavalry could not maneuver, and the Byzantines were unprepared. They were routed, and the Muslims took the Domestikos captive. He remained imprisoned until he fell ill in the year 363 AH. Abū Taghlib went to great lengths in treating him, and physicians gathered for him, but it did not help, and he died.
