Then the year 362 AH began
ذِكْرُ حَرِيقِ الْكَرْخِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ فِي شَعْبَانَ، احْتَرَقَ الْكَرْخُ حَرِيقًا عَظِيمًا. وَسَبَبُ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ صَاحِبَ الْمَعُونَةِ قَتَلَ عَامِّيًّا، فَثَارَ بِهِ الْعَامَّةُ وَالْأَتْرَاكُ، فَهَرَبَ وَدَخَلَ دَارَ بَعْضِ الْأَتْرَاكِ، فَأُخْرِجَ مِنْهَا مَسْحُوبًا، وَقُتِلَ وَأُحْرِقَ، وَفُتِحَتِ السُّجُونُ فَأُخْرِجَ ( مَنْ فِيهَا، فَرَكِبَ ) الْوَزِيرُ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ لِأَخْذِ الْجُنَاةِ، وَأَرْسَلَ حَاجِبًا لَهُ يُسَمَّى صَافِيًا فِي جَمْعٍ لِقِتَالِ الْعَامَّةِ بِالْكَرْخِ، وَكَانَ شَدِيدَ الْعَصَبِيَّةِ لِلسُّنَّةِ، فَأَلْقَى النَّارَ فِي عِدَّةِ أَمَاكِنَ، فَاحْتَرَقَ حَرِيقًا عَظِيمًا، وَكَانَ عُدَّةُ مَنِ احْتَرَقَ فِيهِ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ أَلْفَ إِنْسَانٍ، وَثَلَاثَمِائَةِ دُكَّانٍ، وَكَثِيرًا مِنَ الدُّورِ، وَثَلَاثَةً وَثَلَاثِينَ مَسْجِدًا،، وَمِنَ الْأَمْوَالِ مَا لَا يُحْصَى.
Translation
✧ Mention of the burning of al-Karkh In this year, in Shaʿbān, al-Karkh was consumed by a great fire. The reason for that was that the ṣāḥib al-maʿūnah killed a common man, so the common people and the Turks rose up against him. He fled and entered the house of one of the Turks, but he was dragged out of it, killed, and burned. The prisons were opened and those inside were released. The vizier Abū al-Faḍl rode out to seize the perpetrators and sent a chamberlain of his named Ṣāfī with a group to fight the common people in al-Karkh. He was a strong partisan of the Sunnah, so he cast fire in several places, and a great fire broke out. The number of those who were burned in it was seventeen thousand people, three hundred shops, many houses, thirty-three mosques, and incalculable amounts of property.
