Translation

✧ Account of several events In it, Turk b. al-ʿAbbās, al-Muʿtaḍid's governor over Diyār Muḍar, arrived from al-Jazīrah to Baghdādh, with him more than forty of the companions of Ibn al-Agharr, the master of Sumaysāṭ, on camels, wearing hooded cloaks and silk tunics. He took them to prison and returned to his house. In it, there was a battle for Waṣīf, servant of Ibn Abī al-Sāj, against ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and he defeated him. Then Waṣīf marched to his master Muḥammad b. Abī al-Sāj. In it, Ṭughuj b. Juff entered Ṭarsūs for the summer expedition on behalf of Khumārawayh b. Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn, reached Ṭarābazūn, and conquered Mallūriyyah in Jumādā al-Ākhirah. In it, Aḥmad b. Muḥammad al-Ṭāʾī died at al-Kūfah in Jumādā. In it, al-Muʿtaḍid marched to the region of al-Jabal and made for al-Dīnawar. He appointed his son ʿAlī—who is al-Muktafī—over al-Rayy, Qazwīn, Zanjān, Abhar, Qumm, Hamadhān, and al-Dīnawar. He placed Aḥmad b. al-Aṣbagh over his correspondence, and entrusted ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Dulaf with Iṣbahān, Nahāwand, and al-Karaj. Then he returned to Baghdādh because of high prices. In it, al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī Kūrah, governor of Rāfiʿ over al-Rayy, sought safe-conduct with ʿAlī b. al-Muʿtaḍid [with about a thousand men], and he sent him and those with him to his father. In it, the Bedouins entered Sāmarrā and killed Ibn Sīmā in Dhū al-Qaʿdah. In it, the Muslims raided the Byzantines, and war between them lasted twelve days. The Muslims were victorious, gained much booty, and returned. In it, the sinking of waters was complete in the lands of al-Rayy and Ṭabaristān, prices rose greatly, people suffered hardship and famine so that some of them ate one another. A man would eat his son and his daughter. Truly, to God we belong and to Him we return. In it, Qaṭr al-Nadā bt. Khumārawayh, deputy of the Egyptian lands, arrived at Baghdād in great splendor, and with her was immense trousseau. It was even said that among the trousseau were a hundred mortars of gold, apart from silver and the fabrics and other countless things that followed. Then, after all reckoning, with her were a hundred thousand dinars to buy from Iraq what she might need of things not available in the Egyptian lands. Muḥammad b. Hārūn b. Isḥāq led the people in the pilgrimage, and the pilgrims were caught in a great rain at al-Ajfur, so many of them drowned. A man would drown in the sand, and no one could save him.
