✧ Mention of the death of al-Mundhir b. Muḥammad al-Umawī In the year two hundred and seventy-five, in Muḥarram, al-Mundhir b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Ḥakam b. Hishām al-Umawī, ruler of al-Andalus, died—though it was also said in Ṣafar. His rule had lasted one year, eleven months, and ten days, and his age was about forty-six years. He was dark-skinned, tall, with a pockmarked face, curly-haired, and thick-bearded. He left behind six sons. He was generous, giving to poets and loving poetry. When he died, his brother ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad received the oath of allegiance on the very day of his brother's death. His kunya was Abū Muḥammad. His mother was an umm walad named ʿIshār, who had died a year before her son. During his days al-Andalus was filled with strife, and in every region there was a usurper; it remained so throughout the length of his rule.
