The Year 260 AH from the Prophetic Emigration
Translation
✧ In the year two hundred and sixty AH, there appeared in Miṣr a man whose kunyah was Abū Rawḥ, and his name was Sakan. He was one of the companions of Ibn al-Ṣūfī, and a group gathered around him. He cut the road and made the route unsafe. Ibn Ṭūlūn sent an army against him. Abū Rawḥ took a stand in a land full of fissures, where wheat had already been harvested, and some of its straw remained on the ground covering those fissures. They had become accustomed to walking on such land. When the army came to them, they met them in battle. Then the companions of Abū Rawḥ were defeated and fled, and the troops of Ibn Ṭūlūn pursued them. The hooves of their horses fell into those fissures, and many of their horsemen fell from them. The companions of Abū Rawḥ turned back upon them and killed them in the most terrible manner, and the rest fled in the worst defeat. Aḥmad then dispatched an army to their route toward the oases, and another army in pursuit of him. The army that was pursuing him met him while he had fortified himself in that land. The troops of Aḥmad were wary of it, and when their stratagems failed, he was routed, and the troops pursued them. When they came out onto the road to the oases, Abū Rawḥ saw that the road had been seized against him. He sent a message seeking safe-conduct, and it was granted to him. The fighting ceased, and the Muslims were spared his mischief.
