انْهِزَامِ الزَّنْجِ مِنْ سَعِيدٍ الْحَاجِبِ وَفِي سنة سبع وخمسين ومائتين ( فِي رَجَبٍ ) أَوْقَعَ سَعِيدٌ الْحَاجِبُ بِجَمَاعَةٍ مِنَ الزَّنْجِ، فَهَزَمَهُمْ، وَاسْتَنْقَذَ مَا مَعَهُمْ ( مِنَ النِّسَاءِ، وَالنَّهْبِ، وَاسْتَرْجَعَ مِنْهُ أَمْوَالًا جَزِيلَةً، وَأَذَلَّ الزِّنْجَ غَايَةَ الْإِهَانَةِ وَالْمَذَلَّةِ. وَجُرِحَ سَعِيدٌ عِدَّةَ جِرَاحَاتٍ. وَبَلَغَهُ الْخَبَرُ بِجَمْعٍ آخَرَ مِنْهُمْ، فَسَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَلَقِيَهُمْ، فَهَزَمَهُمْ أَيْضًا، وَاسْتَنْفَذَ مَا مَعَهُمْ )، فَكَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ تِلْكَ النَّاحِيَةِ تَأْخُذُ الزَّنْجِيَّ فَتَأْتِي بِهِ عَسْكَرَ سَعِيدٍ، فَلَا يَمْتَنِعُ عَلَيْهَا. وَعَسْكَرَ سَعِيدٌ بِهَطْمَةَ، ثُمَّ عَبَرَ إِلَى غَرْبِ دِجْلَةَ، فَأَوْقَعَ بِصَاحِبِ الزَّنْجِ عِدَّةَ وَقَعَاتٍ، ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَى مُعَسْكَرِهِ بِهَطْمَةَ، فَأَقَامَ إِلَى ثَانِي رَجَبٍ، وَعَامَّةِ شَعْبَانَ.
Translation
✧ THE DEFEAT OF THE ZANJ BY SAʿĪD AL-ḤĀJIB In the year fifty-seven and two hundred (257 AH), in Rajab, Saʿīd al-Ḥājib fell upon a group of the Zanj and routed them. He rescued what was with them of women and plunder, and recovered from them abundant wealth, and he humiliated the Zanj with the utmost humiliation and abasement. Saʿīd was wounded with several wounds. News reached him of another gathering of them, so he marched against them, met them, and routed them as well, and he recovered what was with them. Thereafter, a woman from that region would seize a Zanjī and bring him to Saʿīd's camp, and he would not resist her. Saʿīd encamped at Haṭmah, then crossed to the west bank of the Tigris and inflicted upon the Zanj commander several defeats. Then he returned to his camp at Haṭmah and remained there until the second of Rajab and most of Shaʿbān.
