عَوْدِ أَبِي أَحْمَدَ الْمُوَفَّقِ مِنْ مَكَّةَ إِلَى سُرَّ مَنْ رَأَى لَمَّا اشْتَدَّ أَمْرُ الزَّنْجِ، وَعَظُمَ شَرُّهُمْ، وَأَفْسَدُوا فِي الْبِلَادِ، أَرْسَلَ الْمُعْتَمِدُ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِلَى أَخِيهِ أَبِي أَحْمَدَ الْمُوَفَّقِ، فَأَحْضَرَهُ مِنْ مَكَّةَ، فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ عَقَدَ لَهُ عَلَى الْكُوفَةِ، وَطَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ، الْحَرَمَيْنِ، وَالْيَمَنِ، ثُمَّ عَقَدَ لَهُ عَلَى بَغْدَاذَ، وَالسَّوَادِ، وَوَاسِطَ، وَكُوَرِ دِجْلَةَ، وَالْبَصْرَةِ، وَالْأَهْوَازِ، وَفَارِسَ، وَأَمَرَ أَنْ يَعْقِدَ لِيَارْكُوجَ عَلَى الْبَصْرَةِ، وَكُوَرِ دِجْلَهَ، وَالْبَحْرَيْنِ، وَالْيَمَامَةِ مَكَانَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، فَاسْتَعْمَلَ يَارْكُوجُ مَنْصُورَ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ الْخَيَّاطَ عَلَى الْبَصْرَةِ وَكُوَرِ دِجْلَةَ إِلَى مَا يَلِي الْأَهْوَازَ. وَأَذِنَ لَهُ أَنْ يَسْتَنِيبَ فِي ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ.
Translation
✧ On the return of Abū Aḥmad al-Muwaffaq from Makkah to Sāmarrāʾ When the affair of the Zanj became severe, and their evil grew great, and they wrought corruption in the lands, al-Muʿtamid ʿalā Allāh sent to his brother Abū Aḥmad al-Muwaffaq and had him brought from Makkah. When he arrived, he invested him with authority over al-Kūfah, the road to Makkah, the two holy sanctuaries, and al-Yaman. Then he invested him with authority over Baghdād, al-Sawād, Wāsiṭ, the districts of the Tigris, al-Baṣrah, al-Ahwāz, and Fārs. He ordered that Yārkūj be invested with authority over al-Baṣrah, the districts of the Tigris, al-Baḥrayn, and al-Yamāmah in place of Saʿīd b. Ṣāliḥ. Yārkūj appointed Manṣūr b. Jaʿfar al-Khayyāṭ over al-Baṣrah and the districts of the Tigris as far as what borders al-Ahwāz. He permitted him to appoint deputies in all of that.
