Translation

✧ In the year two hundred and fifty-two, Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Khalaf al-ʿAṭṭār and a group of the Ṭālibīs were taken to Sāmarrā, among them: Abū Aḥmad Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar (b. al-Ḥasan b. Jaʿfar) b. al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, and Abū Hāshim Dāwūd b. al-Qāsim al-Jaʿfarī, in Shaʿbān. The reason for that was that a man from the Ṭālibīs set out from Baghdād with a group of the Shākiriyya toward the vicinity of Kūfa, which was among the districts of Abū al-Sāj, who was residing in Baghdād. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh ordered the march to Kūfa, and he sent ahead of him his deputy ʿAbd al-Raḥmān to Kūfa. When he arrived there, he was pelted with stones, and they thought he had come to fight the ʿAlawī. He said: "I am not a governor; I am only a man sent to fight the Bedouins." So they refrained from him. The aforementioned Abū Aḥmad al-Ṭālibī had been appointed over Kūfa by al-Muʿtazz, after he had defeated Muzāḥim b. Khāqān the ʿAlawī who had been sent to fight him there, and his mention has already come. Abū Aḥmad wrought havoc there, harmed the people, and took their wealth and estates. When ʿAbd al-Raḥmān stayed in Kūfa, he treated him kindly and won him over, until Abū Aḥmad mixed with him, and he ate and drank with him, until he went along with him. Then he went out for recreation to a garden, and when evening came, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān had already assembled his companions for him, so he bound him and sent him to Baghdād in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir. Books from al-Ḥasan b. Zayd were found with a nephew of Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Khalaf al-ʿAṭṭār, so he wrote of his news to al-Muʿtazz, and he wrote to Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh ordering him to carry him and the aforementioned Ṭālibīs to Sāmarrā. So they were all carried off.
