Translation

✧ The strife between the Turks and the Maghāribah (In the year two hundred and fifty-two, at the beginning of Rajab, the strife occurred between the Turks and the Maghāribah. Its cause was that the Turks) fell upon ʿĪsā b. Farkhānshāh, struck him, and took his mount. The Maghāribah gathered with Muḥammad b. Rāshid and Naṣr b. Saʿd, and they overcame the Turks at al-Jawsaq, expelled them from it, and said to them: “Every day you kill a caliph, depose another, and make a vizier.” Al-Jawsaq and the treasury came into the hands of the Maghāribah, and they seized the mounts that the Turks had left behind. The Turks gathered and sent to al-Karkh and the dwellings of their people, so they assembled and met the Maghāribah. The rabble and the Shākiriyyah aided the Maghāribah, so the Turks weakened and submitted. Jaʿfar b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid made peace between them, on the condition that they would not cause any new trouble, and that in every place where there was a man of one of the two parties, there would be a man of the other party. They remained so for a short while. Then the Turks gathered and said: “We shall seek these two leaders. If we seize them, no one will speak.” News of the gathering of the Turks reached Muḥammad b. Rāshid and Naṣr b. Saʿd, so they went out to the house of Muḥammad b. ʿAzzūn to stay with him until the Turks calmed down, then they would return to their followers. He betrayed them to the Turks, who seized and killed them. That reached al-Muʿtazz, and he wanted to kill Ibn ʿAzzūn, but intercession was made for him, so he banished him to Baghdād.
