Translation

✧ Account of the events that took place in al-Andalus In this year, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Ḥakam sent a large expedition to the land of the Franks, appointing over it ʿUbayd Allāh, known as Ibn al-Balansī. He marched and entered enemy territory, moving through it with raids, capture, killing, and taking prisoners. The enemy armies met him in Rabīʿ al-Awwal, and they fought. The polytheists were defeated and many of them were killed. It was a great victory. In it also, an army—likewise dispatched by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—conquered the fortress of al-Qalʿah in enemy territory, and it moved through it with raids in the middle of the month of Ramaḍān. In it, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ordered the construction of the congregational mosque in Jayyān. In it, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān took hostages from Abū al-Shammākh Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, the leader of the Yamanīs in Tudmīr, in order to quell the strife between the Muḍarīs and the Yamanīs. But they did not desist, and the strife continued. When ʿAbd al-Raḥmān saw that, he ordered the governor of Tudmīr to be removed from it, and to make Mursiyah a residence where governors would stay. He did that, and Mursiyah became the capital of those lands from that time onward. The strife among them lasted until the year two hundred and thirteen. Then ʿAbd al-Raḥmān sent an army to them, and Abū al-Shammākh submitted and obeyed ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, went to him, and became one of his commanders and companions. The strife in the region of Tudmīr ceased.
