ذِكْرُ خَلْعِ أَهْلِ قُمَّ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ خَلَعَ أَهَلُ قُمَّ الْمَأْمُونَ، وَمَنَعُوا الْخَرَاجَ، فَكَانَ سَبَبَهُ أَنَّ الْمَأْمُونَ لَمَّا سَارَ مِنْ خُرَاسَانَ إِلَى الْعِرَاقِ أَقَامَ بِالرَّيِّ ( عِدَّةَ أَيَّامٍ ) وَأَسْقَطَ عَنْهُمْ شَيْئًا مِنْ خَرَاجِهِمْ، فَطَمِعَ أَهْلُ قُمَّ أَنْ يَصْنَعَ بِهِمْ كَذَلِكَ، فَكَتَبُوا إِلَيْهِ يَسْأَلُونَهُ الْحَطِيطَةَ، وَكَانَ خَرَاجُهُمْ أَلْفَيْ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُمُ الْمَأْمُونُ إِلَى مَا سَأَلُوا، فَامْتَنَعُوا مِنْ أَدَائِهِ، فَوَجَّهَ الْمَأْمُونُ إِلَيْهِمْ عَلِيَّ بْنَ هِشَامٍ، وَعُجَيْفَ بْنَ عَنْبَسَةَ، فَحَارَبَهُمْ، ( فَظَفَرَا بِهِمْ ) وَقُتِلَ يَحْيَى بْنُ عِمْرَانَ، وَهُدِمَ سُورُ الْمَدِينَةِ، وَجَبَاهَا عَلَى سَبْعَةِ آلَافِ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، وَكَانُوا يَتَظَلَّمُونَ مِنْ أَلْفَيْ أَلْفٍ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the people of Qumm renouncing allegiance In this year, the people of Qumm renounced allegiance to al-Maʾmūn and withheld the land tax. The reason was that when al-Maʾmūn traveled from Khurāsān to Iraq, he stayed in al-Rayy for a number of days and reduced something of their land tax for them. So the people of Qumm hoped that he would do the same for them. They wrote to him requesting a reduction. Their land tax was two million dirhams. Al-Maʾmūn did not grant them what they asked, so they refused to pay it. Al-Maʾmūn sent against them ʿAlī b. Hishām and ʿUjayf b. ʿAnbasah, and they fought them and defeated them. Yaḥyā b. ʿImrān was killed, the city wall was demolished, and he imposed on them a tax of seven million dirhams, though they had complained about two million.
