غَزْوِ الْفِرِنْجِ بِالْأَنْدَلُسِ فِي سَنَةُ ثَمَانِينَ وَمِائَةٍ سَيَّرَ الْحَكَمُ صَاحِبُ الْأَنْدَلُسِ جَيْشًا مَعَ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ مُغِيثٍ إِلَى بِلَادِ الْفِرِنْجِ، فَدَخَلَ الْبِلَادَ، وَبَثَّ السَّرَايَا يَنْهَبُونَ، وَيُقَتِّلُونَ، وَيُحَرِّقُونَ الْبِلَادَ، وَسَيَّرَ سَرِيَّةً، فَجَازُوا خَلِيجًا مِنَ الْبَحْرِ كَانَ الْمَاءُ قَدْ جَزَرَ عَنْهُ، وَكَانَ الْفِرِنْجُ قَدْ جَعَلُوا أَمْوَالَهُمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ وَرَاءَ الْخَلِيجِ، ظَنًّا مِنْهُمْ أَنَّ أَحَدًا لَا يَقْدِرُ أَنْ يَعْبُرَ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَجَاءَهُمْ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي حِسَابِهِمْ، فَغَنِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ جَمِيعَ مَالِهِمْ، وَأَسَرُوا الرِّجَالَ وَقَتَلُوا مِنْهُمْ فَأَكْثَرُوا، وَسَبَوُا الْحَرِيمَ، وَعَادُوا سَالِمِينَ إِلَى عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ. وَسَيَّرَ طَائِفَةً أُخْرَى، فَخَرَّبُوا كَثِيرًا مِنْ بِلَادِ فَرَنْسِيَّةَ، وَغَنِمَ أَمْوَالَ أَهْلِهَا، وَأَسَرُوا الرِّجَالَ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ بَعْضُ الْأَسْرَى أَنَّ جَمَاعَةً مِنْ مُلُوكِ الْفِرِنْجِ قَدْ سَبَقُوا الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَى وَادٍ وَعْرِ الْمَسْلَكِ عَلَى طَرِيقِهِمْ، فَجَمَعَ عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ عَسَاكِرَهُ، وَسَارَ عَلَى تَعْبِئَةٍ، وَجَدَّ السَّيْرَ، فَلَمْ يَشْعُرِ الْكُفَّارُ إِلَّا وَقَدْ خَالَطَهُمْ الْمُسْلِمُونَ، فَوَضَعُوا السَّيْفَ فِيهِمْ، فَانْهَزَمُوا، وَغَنِمَ مَا مَعَهُمْ، وَعَادَ سَالِمًا هُوَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ.
Translation
✧ The raid of the Franks in al-Andalus In the year one hundred and eighty, al-Ḥakam, the ruler of al-Andalus, dispatched an army with ʿAbd al-Karīm b. Mughīth to the lands of the Franks. He entered the lands and sent out raiding parties, plundering, killing, and burning the lands. He dispatched a raiding party, and they crossed a creek of the sea from which the water had ebbed. The Franks had placed their wealth, their families, and their dependents beyond the creek, thinking that no one would be able to cross over to them. Then there came to them what had not been in their reckoning, and the Muslims seized all their wealth as booty. They captured the men, killed many of them, and took the women and children captive, then returned safely to ʿAbd al-Karīm. He dispatched another group, and they laid waste to much of the land of Francia, seizing the wealth of its people as booty and capturing the men. Some of the captives informed him that a group of Frankish kings had preceded the Muslims to a valley with a rugged pass on their route. So ʿAbd al-Karīm assembled his forces, marched in battle formation, and hastened the pace. The unbelievers were not aware until the Muslims had already fallen upon them. They put them to the sword, and they were routed. He seized what was with them as booty and returned safely, he and those with him.
