Translation
✧ The governance of his son al-Ḥakam and his title al-Muntaṣir When he died, he was succeeded by his son al-Ḥakam. Al-Ḥakam was resolute and firm. He was the first to acquire many mamluks in al-Andalus, to tether horses at his gate, and to imitate tyrants. He handled affairs himself. He was eloquent and a poet. When he assumed power, his two paternal uncles Sulaymān and ʿAbd Allāh rose against him. They were in the land of the western shore (al-ʿUdwah al-Gharbiyyah). ʿAbd Allāh al-Balansī crossed to al-Andalus and took over Valencia (Balansiyah). His brother Sulaymān, who was in Tangier (Ṭanjah), followed him. They both came inciting people against al-Ḥakam and stirring up strife. They fought for a period, and victory belonged to al-Ḥakam. Then al-Ḥakam captured his uncle Sulaymān and killed him in the year 184 AH. [As for ʿAbd Allāh,] he remained in Valencia, having desisted from strife. He became fearful and corresponded with al-Ḥakam about peace. Al-Ḥakam agreed to that, and peace was concluded between them in the year 186 AH. He married the sons of ʿAbd Allāh to his sisters, and the strife subsided. When al-Ḥakam was preoccupied with the strife with his two uncles, the Franks seized the opportunity. They headed for the lands of Islam, took the city of Barcelona (Barshalūnah), made it a base, and moved their people there. The Muslim armies withdrew from it. Its capture was in the year 185 AH.
