The wives of the Prophet, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, and ᴿᴬ
[ زَوَاجُهُ بِجُوَيْرِيَةَ ] وَتَزَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ الْخُزَاعِيَّةَ، كَانَتْ فِي سَبَايَا بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ. يَوْمَ الْمُرَيْسِيعِ فَوَقَعَتْ فِي السَّهْمِ لِثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ الشَّمَّاسِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، فَكَاتَبَهَا عَلَى نَفْسِهَا، فَأَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسْتَعِينُهُ فِي كِتَابَتِهَا. فَقَالَ لَهَا: هَلْ لَكَ فِي خَيْرٍ مِنْ ذَلِكِ ؟ قَالَتْ: وَمَا هُوَ ؟ قَالَ: أَقْضِي عَنْكَ كِتَابَتَكَ وَأَتَزَوَّجُكَ ؟ فَقَالَتْ: نَعَمْ فَأَعْتَقَهَا وَتَزَوَّجَهَا. وَيُقَالُ: بَلْ قَدِمَ أَبُوهَا الْحَارِثُ، وَكَانَ مَلِكَ خُزَاعَةَ فَأَسْلَمَ، ثُمَّ تَزَوَّجَهَا مِنْهُ ﷺ، وَكَانَتْ قَبْلَهُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَمِّهَا صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الشُّفْرِ. قَالَهُ قَتَادَةُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَالشَّعْبِيِّ، وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ قَالُوا: وَكَانَ هَذَا الْبَطْنُ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ حُلَفَاءَ لِأَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ; وَلِهَذَا يَقُولُ حَسَّانُ: وَحِلْفُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ وَحِلْفُ قُرَيْظَةٍ فِيكُمْ سَوَاءُ وَقَالَ سَيْفُ بْنُ عُمَرَ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: وَكَانَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ تَحْتَ ابْنِ عَمِّهَا مَالِكِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ تَوْلَبٍ ذِي الشُّفْرِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّرْحِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْمُصْطَلِقِ. وقَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَيُقَالُ: لَمَّا انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ، وَمَعَهُ جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ، فَكَانَ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ، دَفَعَ جُوَيْرِيَةَ إلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ وَدِيعَةً، وَأَمَرَهُ بِالِاحْتِفَاظِ بِهَا، وَقَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَأَقْبَلَ أَبُوهَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ بِفِدَاءِ ابْنَتِهِ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِالْعَقِيقِ نَظَرَ إلَى الْإِبِلِ الَّتِي جَاءَ بِهَا لِلْفِدَاءِ، فَرَغِبَ فِي بَعِيرَيْنِ مِنْهَا، فَغَيَّبَهُمَا فِي شِعْبٍ مِنْ شِعَابِ الْعَقِيقِ، ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، أَصَبْتُمْ ابْنَتِي، وَهَذَا فِدَاؤُهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: فَأَيْنَ الْبَعِيرَانِ اللَّذَانِ غَيَّبْتُ بِالْعَقِيقِ فِي شِعْبِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ، وَأَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ، فَوَاَللَّهِ مَا اطَّلَعَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ إلَّا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فَأَسْلَمَ الْحَارِثُ، وَأَسْلَمَ مَعَهُ ابْنَانِ لَهُ وَنَاسٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ، وَأَرْسَلَ إلَى الْبَعِيرَيْنِ، فَجَاءَ بِهِمَا، فَدَفَعَ الْإِبِلَ إلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، وَدُفِعَتْ إلَيْهِ ابْنَتُهُ جُوَيَرِيَةُ، فَأَسْلَمَتْ وَحَسُنَ إسْلَامُهَا، وَخَطَبَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إلَى أَبِيهَا، فَزَوَّجَهُ إيَّاهَا، وَأَصْدَقَهَا أَرْبَعَ مِئَةِ دِرْهَمٍ، وَكَانَتْ قَبْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَمٍّ لَهَا يُقَالُ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ. وَرَوَى الْبَيْهَقِيُّ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: رَأَيْتُ قَبْلَ قُدُومِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِثَلَاثِ لَيَالٍ كَأَنَّ قَمَرًا يَسِيرُ مِنْ يَثْرِبَ حَتَّى وَقَعَ فِي حِجْرِي، فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُخْبِرَ بِهَا أَحَدًا مِنَ النَّاسِ حَتَّى قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - ﷺ فَلَمَّا سُبِينَا رَجَوْتُ الرُّؤْيَا فَاعْتَقَنِي وَتَزَوَّجَنِي وَأَسْلَمَ أَبُوهَا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ.
Translation
✧ [ His marriage to Juwayriyah ] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Juwayriyah bt. al-Ḥārith b. Abī Ḍirār al-Khuzāʿiyyah. She was among the captives of Banū al-Muṣṭaliq of Khuzāʿah on the day of al-Muraysīʿ, and she fell to the lot of Thābit b. Qays b. al-Shammās al-Anṣārī. He made a contract of manumission with her for herself. She came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking his help in her contract. He said to her: "Would you like something better than that?" She said: "And what is it?" He said: "I will pay off your contract for you and marry you?" She said: "Yes." So he manumitted her and married her. It is said: rather her father al-Ḥārith came forward, and he was the king of Khuzāʿah, and he embraced Islam; then the Prophet ﷺ married her from him. Before him, she had been with her paternal cousin Ṣafwān b. Abī al-Shufr. This was said by Qatādah, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyib, al-Shaʿbī, Muḥammad b. Isḥāq, and others. They said: this clan of Khuzāʿah were allies of Abū Sufyān against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; and for this reason Ḥassān says: And the alliance of al-Ḥārith b. Abī Ḍirār And the alliance of Qurayẓah are equal among you. And Sayf b. ʿUmar said in his narration, from Saʿīd b. ʿAbd Allāh, from Ibn Abī Mulaykah, from ʿĀʾishah, she said: Juwayriyah was under her paternal cousin Mālik b. Ṣafwān b. Tawlab Dhī al-Shufr b. Abī al-Sarḥ b. Mālik b. al-Muṣṭaliq. Ibn Hishām said: It is said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from the expedition of Banū al-Muṣṭaliq, and with him was Juwayriyah bt. al-Ḥārith, and he was at Dhāt al-Jaysh, he entrusted Juwayriyah to a man of the Anṣār as a deposit, and ordered him to keep her safely. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah. Her father al-Ḥārith b. Abī Ḍirār came forward with the ransom for his daughter. When he was at al-ʿAqīq, he looked at the camels he had brought for the ransom, and he desired two of them, so he hid them in one of the ravines of al-ʿAqīq. Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Muḥammad, you have taken my daughter, and this is her ransom." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Where are the two camels you hid at al-ʿAqīq in such-and-such a ravine?" Al-Ḥārith said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that you are the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless you. By Allah, none knew of that except Allah Most High." So al-Ḥārith embraced Islam, and with him embraced Islam two sons of his and some people of his tribe. He sent for the two camels and brought them back, and handed the camels over to the Prophet ﷺ, and his daughter Juwayriyah was handed over to him. She embraced Islam and her Islam was good. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked her father for her hand, and he married her to him, and he gave her a dower of four hundred dirhams. Before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she had been with a paternal cousin of hers called ʿAbd Allāh. Al-Bayhaqī narrated from her, she said: Three nights before the arrival of the Prophet ﷺ, I saw as if a moon was traveling from Yathrib until it fell into my lap. I disliked to tell anyone of the people about it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived. When we were taken captive, I hoped for the vision, so he manumitted me and married me, and her father embraced Islam after that.
