Translation

✧ God Almighty's choosing for him ﷺ to combine for him, along with prophethood, martyrdom Al-Bukhārī narrated in a suspended form and al-Bayhaqī in a connected chain from ʿĀʾishah ؓ that she said: The Messenger of God ﷺ used to say during the illness in which he died: “O ʿĀʾishah, I still feel the pain of the food I ate at Khaybar, and this is the time I have felt the severing of my aorta from that poison.” In another wording: “The morsel of Khaybar kept recurring to me.” Ibn Saʿd narrated with a sound chain, and al-Bayhaqī, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Masʿūd ؓ that he said: “To swear nine times that the Messenger of God ﷺ was killed, a killing, is dearer to me than to swear once, and that is because God took him as a prophet and made him a martyr.” Ibn Saʿd narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās, Jābir, Abū Hurayrah, and others that the Messenger of God ﷺ lived after eating the poisoned ewe at Khaybar for three years until the pain in which he died. He began to say during his illness: “I have continued to feel the recurrence of the morsel I ate on the day of Khaybar until this time of the severing of my aorta,” and that is a vein in the back. The Messenger of God ﷺ died as a martyr. Imam Aḥmad and al-Ḥākim narrated from Umm Maʿbad, the wife of Kaʿb, that Umm Mubashshir entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ during the pain in which he was taken and said: “May my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of God ﷺ, what do you suspect for yourself? For I do not suspect for my son anything but the food he ate with you at Khaybar.” Her son had died before the Prophet ﷺ. He said: “And I do not suspect anything other than it. This is the time of the severing of my aorta.” Ibn Mājah narrated from Ibn ʿUmar ؓ that he said: Umm Salamah said: “O Messenger of God, does pain from the poisoned ewe you ate keep afflicting you every year?” He said: “Nothing of it has afflicted me but that it was written upon me while Adam was in his clay.” Ibn Saʿd narrated from Abū Hurayrah, Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh, Ibn ʿAbbās ؓ, and Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, may God Almighty have mercy on him, the hadith of the poisoned ewe, in which it is stated: “And the Messenger of God ﷺ had cupping performed on his upper back because of what he ate. Abū Hind cupped him with a horn and a blade, and the Messenger of God ﷺ commanded his companions, and they had cupping performed on the middle of their heads. And the Messenger of God ﷺ lived after that for three years until the pain in which he was taken. He began to say: ‘This is the time of the severing of my aorta,’ and it is a vein in the back. Thus the Muslims used to consider that the Messenger of God ﷺ died as a martyr, along with what God had honored him with of prophethood.
