Translation

✧ His ﷺ warning against taking his grave as a mosque Al-Shaykhān narrated from ʿĀʾishah ؓ and Ibn Saʿd said: When the illness descended upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he began placing a khamīṣah of his over his face, and when he felt distressed he uncovered it from his face, and he said while he was thus: “The curse of Allah upon the Jews and the Christians; they took the graves of their prophets as mosques.” ʿĀʾishah said: He was warning against the like of what they did. Al-Bukhārī narrated from ʿĀʾishah ؓ; she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said in his illness from which he did not rise: “Allah cursed the Jews [and the Christians]; they took the graves of their prophets as mosques.” ʿĀʾishah said: Were it not for that, his grave would have been made prominent; he feared it would be taken as a mosque. Al-Ṭayālisī and Imām Aḥmad narrated from Usāmah b. Zayd ؓ; he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Bring in my companions to me.” So they entered upon him while he was covered with a burd of his of Maʿāfir. He said: “Allah cursed the Jews” — Imām Aḥmad added: “and the Christians; they took the graves of their prophets as mosques.” Ibn Abī Shaybah, al-Ḥārith, and Abū Yaʿlā narrated from him; he said: We entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to visit him while he was ill, and we found him sleeping, having covered his face with an ʿAdanī burd. He uncovered his face then said: “Allah cursed the Jews; they forbid the fat of sheep and eat its price...” to the end of the ḥadīth. Imām Mālik said in his Muwaṭṭaʾ, from Ismāʿīl b. Abī Ḥakīm, that he heard ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz say: Among the last words the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke was that he said: “May Allah fight the Jews and the Christians; they took the graves of their prophets as mosques. Two religions shall not remain in the land of the Arabs.” Thus he narrated it as mursal, from the Commander of the Faithful ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, may Allah have mercy on him.
