Translation
✧ His ﷺ sending Qudāma b. Maẓʿūn ؓ to al-Mundhir b. Sāwā [Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: Qudāma b. Maẓʿūn b. Ḥabīb b. Wahb b. Ḥudhāfa b. Jumaḥ al-Qurashī al-Jumaḥī, whose kunya was Abū ʿUmar, and it is said Abū ʿAmr, but the former is more well-known. His mother was a woman from Banū Jumaḥ, and he was the maternal uncle of ʿAbd Allāh and Ḥafṣa, the two children of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ. Ṣafiyya bt. al-Khaṭṭāb, the sister of ʿUmar, was married to him. He emigrated to the land of Abyssinia with his two brothers ʿUthmān and ʿAbd Allāh, and he was present at Badr and the other battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. ʿUmar appointed him over al-Baḥrayn, then dismissed him and flogged him for wine for a lengthy reason, which Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr mentioned. ʿUmar became angry with him, then reconciled with him because of a dream ʿUmar saw. When he returned from the pilgrimage and stopped at al-Suqyā, he slept. When he awoke, he said: 'Hasten to bring Qudāma to me, for by Allah, someone came to me in my sleep and said: Make peace with Qudāma, for he is your brother. So hasten to bring him to me.' When they came to him, he refused to come, then he came and ʿUmar spoke with him and sought forgiveness for him. Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: No one from the people of Badr was punished for wine except Qudāma b. Maẓʿūn ؓ. He died in the year thirty-six, at the age of sixty-eight. Ibn Saʿd mentioned him and Abū Hurayra ؓ among his ﷺ messengers to al-Mundhir b. Sāwā].
