Translation

✧ Regarding the delegations of Bāhilah to him ﷺ Ibn Shāhīn narrated from Ibn Isḥāq from his shaykhs, and Ibn Saʿd from his shaykhs; they said: Muṭarrif b. al-Kāhin al-Bāhilī came to the Messenger of God ﷺ after the conquest as a delegate for his people. He said: O Messenger of God, we have submitted to Islam and borne witness to the religion of God in His heavens and that there is no god other than Him, and we have believed you and believed in all that you have said, so write a document for us. So he wrote for him: "From Muḥammad the Messenger of God to Muṭarrif b. al-Kāhin and to those of Bāhilah who dwell in Bīshah. Whoever revives dead land in which there is a resting place for livestock, it belongs to him, and upon him for every thirty cattle is a two-year-old, and for every forty sheep is a yearling goat, and for every fifty camels is a four-year-old she-camel [and the collector is not to collect them except in their pastures, and they are secure with the security of God]"—the ḥadīth... And in it: Muṭarrif departed while saying: I swore by the Lord of the dancing ones at evening upon every edge of a six-year-old and a nine-year-old camel Ibn Saʿd said: Then Nahshal b. Mālik al-Wāʾilī of Bāhilah came to the Messenger of God ﷺ as a delegate for his people, and he embraced Islam, and the Messenger of God ﷺ wrote for him and for those of his people who embraced Islam a document containing the laws of Islam, and ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān ؓ wrote it.
