Translation

✧ Concerning the delegations of Banū al-Bakkāʾī to him ﷺ. Ibn Saʿd narrated from ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿĀmir al-Bakkāʾī and from al-Jaʿd b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿĀmir al-Bakkāʾī from his father, and Ibn Shāhīn from Yazīd b. Rūmān, and from al-Ḥusn and from al-Suddī from Abū Mālik and from the men of al-Madāʾinī and Ibn Minda, and Abū Nuʿaym from another route, and Ibn Shāhīn from another aspect from Bishr b. Muʿāwiya b. Thawr, and Ibn Shāhīn, and Thābit in al-Dalāʾil. They said: A delegation from Banū al-Bakkāʾ came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in year nine, three persons: Muʿāwiya b. Thawr b. ʿUbāda al-Bakkāʾī, and he was then one hundred years old, and with him a son of his called Bishr, and al-Fujayʿ b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Junduḥ b. al-Bakkāʾ, and with them ʿAbd ʿAmr, and he is al-Aṣamm. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered for them a lodging and hospitality, and he gave them gifts, and they returned to their people. Muʿāwiya said to the Prophet ﷺ: "I seek blessing by touching you, and I have grown old, and this son of mine is dutiful to me, so wipe his face." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped the face of Bishr b. Muʿāwiya and gave him some tawny she-goats and blessed them. Al-Jaʿd said: The year of drought sometimes struck Banū al-Bakkāʾ but did not strike the family of Muʿāwiya. Muḥammad b. Bishr b. Muʿāwiya b. Thawr b. ʿUbāda b. al-Bakkāʾ ؓ said: And my father whose head the Messenger wiped, and prayed for him for good and blessings; Aḥmad gave him, when he came to him, she-goats, Tawny, long-uddered, not with pendulous udders; they fill the milk-vessel of the tribe every evening, And that filling returns in the mornings; blessed were they as a gift and blessed the giver, And upon him, as long as I live, is my prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ named ʿAbd ʿAmr al-Aṣamm ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and wrote for him regarding his hundred that he had become Muslim upon it at Dhū l-Qaṣṣa. And ʿAbd al-Raḥmān was among the people of the ẓulla, meaning the ṣuffa, the ṣuffa of the mosque.
