وُفُودِ بَهْرَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ كَرِيمَةَ بِنْتِ الْمِقْدَادِ ؓ قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ أُمِّي ضُبَاعَةَ بِنْتَ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ تَقُولُ: قَدِمَ وَفْدُ بَهْرَاءَ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانُوا ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا. فَأَقْبَلُوا يَقُودُونَ رَوَاحِلَهُمْ حَتَّى انْتَهَوْا إِلَى بَابِ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، وَنَحْنُ فِي مَنَازِلِنَا بِبَنِي حُدَيْلَةَ. فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمُ الْمِقْدَادُ فَرَحَّبَ وَأَنْزَلَهُمْ وَقَدَّمَ لَهُمْ جَفْنَةً مِنْ حَيْسٍ. قَالَتْ ضُبَاعَةُ: كُنَّا قَدْ هَيَّأْنَاهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَحِلُّوا لِنَجْلِسَ عَلَيْهَا، فَحَمَلَهَا الْمِقْدَادُ وَكَانَ كَرِيمًا عَلَى الطَّعَامِ، فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهَا حَتَّى نَهِلُوا وَرُدَّتْ إِلَيْنَا الْقَصْعَةُ وَفِيهَا شَيْءٌ فَجُمِعَ فِي قَصْعَةٍ صَغِيرَةٍ ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا بِهَا مَعَ سِدْرَةَ مَوْلَاتِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ، فَوَجَدْتُهُ فِي بَيْتٍ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ. فَقَالَ ﷺ: «ضُبَاعَةُ أَرْسَلَتْ بِهَذَا ؟ » قَالَتْ سِدْرَةُ: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «ضَعِي» ثُمَّ قَالَ: «مَا فَعَلَ ضَيْفُ أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ ؟ » قُلْتُ: عِنْدَنَا. فَأَصَابَ مِنْهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هُوَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ حَتَّى نَهِلُوا وَأَكَلَتْ مَعَهُمْ سِدْرَةُ. ثُمَّ قَالَ: «اذْهَبِي بِمَا بَقِيَ إِلَى ضَيْفِكُمْ». قَالَتْ سِدْرَةُ: فَرَجَعْتُ بِالْقَصْعَةِ إِلَى مَوْلَاتِي. قَالَتْ: فَأَكَلَ مِنْهَا الضَّيْفُ مَا أَقَامُوا. فَرَدَّدَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَا تَغِيضُ حَتَّى جَعَلَ الضَّيْفُ يَقُولُونَ يَا أَبَا مَعْبَدٍ إِنَّكَ لَتُنْهِلُنَا مِنْ أَحَبِّ الطَّعَامِ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا كُنَّا نَقْدِرُ عَلَى مِثْلِ هَذَا إِلَّا فِي الْحِينِ. وَقَدْ ذُكِرَ لَنَا أَنَّ بِلَادَكُمْ قَلِيلَةُ الطَّعَامِ إِنَّمَا هُوَ الْعُلْقُ أَوْ نَحْوُهُ وَنَحْنُ عِنْدُكُمْ فِي الشِّبَعِ. فَأَخْبَرَهُمْ أَبُو مَعْبَدٍ بِخَبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ أَكْلُ مِنْهَا وَرَدَّهَا وَهَذِهِ بَرَكَةُ أَصَابِعِهِ ﷺ. فَجُعِلَ الْقَوْمُ يَقُولُونَ: نَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَازْدَادُوا يَقِينًا، وَذَلِكَ الَّذِي أَرَادَ ﷺ فَأَتَوْهُ فَأَسْلَمُوا وَتَعَلَّمُوا الْفَرَائِضَ وَأَقَامُوا أَيَّامًا. ثُمَّ جَاءُوا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُوَدِّعُونَهُ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ بِجَوَائِزَ وَانْصَرَفُوا إِلَى أَهْلِيهِمْ.
Translation
✧ Delegations of Bahrāʾ to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ Muḥammad b. ʿUmar related from Karīmah bt. al-Miqdād ؓ who said: I heard my mother Ḍubāʿah bt. al-Zubayr b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib say: The delegation of Bahrāʾ from Yemen came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they were thirteen men. They came leading their mounts until they stopped at the door of al-Miqdād b. ʿAmr, while we were in our dwellings among Banū Ḥudaylah. Al-Miqdād went out to them, welcomed them, lodged them, and placed before them a large bowl of ḥays. Ḍubāʿah said: We had prepared it before they arrived so that we might sit over it. Al-Miqdād carried it, and he was generous with food. They ate from it until they had their fill, and the bowl was returned to us with something left in it. It was gathered into a small bowl, then we sent it with Sidrah, my freedwoman, to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I found him in the house of Umm Salamah. He ﷺ said, "Did Ḍubāʿah send this?" Sidrah said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Put it down." Then he said, "What has become of the guest of Abū Maʿbad?" I said, "He is with us." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate from it, he and those with him in the house, until they had their fill, and Sidrah ate with them. Then he said, "Take what remains to your guests." Sidrah said: So I returned with the bowl to my mistress. She said: The guests ate from it as long as they stayed. He kept returning it to them, and it did not diminish, until the guests began to say, "O Abū Maʿbad, you fill us with the most beloved food to us, and we could only obtain the like of this from time to time. It has been mentioned to us that your lands have little food, only ʿulq or the like, yet we are with you in satiety." Abū Maʿbad informed them of the matter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that he ate from it and returned it, and this is the blessing of his ﷺ fingers. The people began to say, "We bear witness that he is the Messenger of Allah," and they increased in certainty. That is what he ﷺ intended. So they came to him, accepted Islam, learned the religious obligations, and stayed for some days. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to bid him farewell, and he ordered gifts for them, and they departed to their families.
