Chapter mentioning the offspring of Abraham (peace and blessings be upon him)
Translation
✧ When death came to him, he entrusted his brother Isaac, and Ishmael, the prophet of God, was buried in the Ḥijr with his mother Hagar. His age on the day he died was one hundred and thirty-seven years. It is related from ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz that he said: Ishmael ﷺ complained to his Lord, Exalted and Majestic, of the heat of Makkah, so God revealed to him: 'I shall open for you a door to Paradise at the place where you will be buried; its breeze will flow over you until the Day of Resurrection.' And in that place he died. Khālid al-Makhzūmī said: They hold that this place is what lies between the water-spout and the western door of the Ḥijr; his grave is in it. Ṣafwān b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Jumaḥī said: Ibn al-Zubayr dug in the Ḥijr and found in it a basket of green stones. He asked Quraysh about it, but found no one among them who had knowledge of it. He sent for my father and asked him, and he said: 'This is the grave of Ishmael ﷺ.' In another version: He found green stones with which it was covered over, and it was said to him: 'This is the grave of Ishmael.' It is also said: Rather, his grave is opposite the Black Stone. Ibn al-Zubayr said: 'This mound' — he indicated what is next to the Syrian corner of the Sacred Mosque — 'contains the graves of the virgin daughters of Ishmael.' He said: That place was levelled with the mosque, and it is not established that it should return to being a mound as it was. The scholars of the biography said: When Ishmael died, his son Nābit b. Ishmael took charge of the affairs of the sanctuary after him, and it is said: His name is Nabt, and his mother was from Jurhum. Then Nabt died, and he had no son of Ishmael, so Jurhum prevailed over the guardianship of the House. From Abū al-Jahm b. Ḥudhayfa b. Ghānim, who said: Ishmael died after Isaac, and was buried inside the Ḥijr on the side facing the Kaʿbah with his mother Hagar. Nābit b. Ishmael took charge of the House after his father, together with his maternal uncles from Jurhum. He said: From Isḥāq b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Farwa, that he said: The location of no prophet's grave is known except three: the grave of Ishmael, for it is beneath the water-spout between the corner and the House; the grave of Hūd, for it is in a rocky hollow beneath the mountains of Yemen, over which is a tree of call, and its place is the hottest spot on earth; and the grave of the Messenger of God ﷺ.
