The Conquest of Makkah
Translation
✧ The Islam of ʿUtbah and Muʿattib, the two sons of Abū Lahab — ؓ Ibn Saʿd narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās, from his father, ؓ, who said: When the Messenger of God ﷺ came to Makkah during the conquest, he said to me: “Where are the two sons of your brother, ʿUtbah and Muʿattib, the two sons of Abū Lahab? I do not see them.” I said: “They withdrew among those of the polytheists of Quraysh who withdrew.” He said: “Bring them to me.” So I rode to them at ʿAranah and brought them. He called them to Islam, and they became Muslims and pledged allegiance. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ stood, took them by their hands, and set off with them until he came to al-Multazam. He supplicated for a while, then departed, and joy could be seen in his face. I said: “O Messenger of God, may God gladden you; I see joy in your face.” He said: “I asked my Lord to grant me these two sons of my uncle, and He granted them to me.”
