The Conquest of Makkah
إِسْلَامِ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو - ؓ رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ - رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ - عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: لَمَّا دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ وَظَهَرَ، اقْتَحَمْتُ بَيْتِي وَأَغْلَقْتُ بَابِي عَلَيَّ، وَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَى ابْنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنِ اطْلُبْ لِي جِوَارًا مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ فَإِنِّي لَا آمَنُ أَنْ أُقْتَلَ، فَذَهَبَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ!! أَبِي تُؤَمِّنُهُ ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ، هُوَ آمِنٌ بِأَمَانِ اللَّهِ فَلْيَظْهَرْ” ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِمَنْ حَوْلُهُ: «مَنْ لَقِيَ سُهَيْلَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو فَلَا يُحِدَّ إِلَيْهِ النَّظَرَ فَلَعَمْرِي إِنَّ سُهَيْلًا لَهُ عَقْلٌ وَشَرَفٌ، وَمَا مِثْلُ سُهَيْلٍ جَهِلَ الْإِسْلَامَ، وَلَقَدْ رَأَى مَا كَانَ يُوضَعُ فِيهِ إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ بِنَافِعٍ لَهُ” فَخَرَجَ ابْنُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ إِلَى أَبِيهِ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا قَالَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ سُهَيْلٌ: كَانَ وَاللَّهِ بَرًّا صَغِيرًا، بَرًّا كَبِيرًا، فَكَانَ سُهَيْلٌ يُقْبِلُ وَيُدْبِرُ آمِنًا وَخَرَجَ إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ عَلَى شِرْكِهِ حَتَّى أَسْلَمَ بِالْجِعِرَّانَةِ.
Translation
✧ The Islam of Suhayl b. ʿAmr — ؓ Muḥammad b. ʿUmar — may God have mercy on him — narrated from Suhayl b. ʿAmr, who said: When the Messenger of God ﷺ entered Makkah and prevailed, I burst into my house and locked my door upon myself, and I sent to my son ʿAbd Allāh, saying: Seek protection for me from Muḥammad, for I do not feel safe from being killed. So ʿAbd Allāh went to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God! Will you grant my father security? He said: "Yes, he is secure with God's protection, so let him appear." Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said to those around him: "Whoever meets Suhayl b. ʿAmr, let him not look sharply at him, for by my life, Suhayl has intelligence and honor, and one like Suhayl is not ignorant of Islam. He has seen what he was being placed in; it was of no benefit to him." Then his son ʿAbd Allāh went out to his father and told him what the Messenger of God ﷺ had said. Suhayl said: By God, he was dutiful when young and dutiful when old. Then Suhayl went back and forth safely, and he went out to Ḥunayn with the Messenger of God ﷺ while still upon his polytheism, until he embraced Islam at al-Jiʿrānah.
