The Conquest of Makkah
قِرَاءَتِهِ ﷺ سُورَتَيِ الْفَتْحِ وَالنَّصْرِ فِي يَوْمِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ - بِضَمِّ الْمِيمِ، وَفَتْحِ الْغَيْنِ الْمُعْجَمَةِ، وَالْفَاءِ الْمُشَدَّدَةِ، وَبِاللَّامِ ؓ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ عَلَى نَاقَتِهِ، وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفَتْحِ، يُرَجِّعُ صَوْتَهُ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ، قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ قُرَّةَ: لَوْلَا أَنْ يَجْتَمِعَ النَّاسُ حَوْلِي لَرَجَّعْتُ كَمَا رَجَّعَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُغَفَّلٍ يَحْكِي قِرَاءَةَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: فَقُلْتُ لِمُعَاوِيَةَ: كَيْفَ كَانَ تَرْجِيعُهُ ؟ قَالَ: ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي التَّفْسِيرِ وَفَضَائِلِ الْقُرْآنِ وَالْمَغَازِي وَالتَّوْحِيدِ، وَمُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، وَالنَّسَائِيُّ، وَالْحَاكِمُ. وَرَوَى الطَّبَرَانِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ «هَذَا مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي” ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ [النَّصْرِ 1]
Translation
✧ His ﷺ recitation of Sūrat al-Fatḥ and Sūrat al-Naṣr on that day From ʿAbd Allāh b. Mughaffal — with ḍammah on the mīm, fatḥah on the dotted ghayn, and the doubled fāʾ, and with the lām — ؓ, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the conquest of Makkah upon his she-camel, while he was reciting Sūrat al-Fatḥ, modulating his voice in recitation. Muʿāwiyah b. Qurrah said: Were it not that the people would gather around me, I would modulate as ʿAbd Allāh b. Mughaffal modulated, imitating the recitation of the Prophet ﷺ. Shuʿbah said: I said to Muʿāwiyah: How was his modulation? He said: Three times. Al-Bukhārī narrated it in the Tafsīr, the Virtues of the Qurʾān, the Maghāzī, and al-Tawḥīd; Muslim in the Prayer; al-Nasāʾī; and al-Ḥākim. Al-Ṭabarānī narrated from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī ؓ, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the conquest: “This is what my Lord promised me.” Then he recited: When the help of Allah comes and the victory [al-Naṣr 1]
