Translation
✧ The Compensatory ʿUmrah The Prophet ﷺ set out for the compensatory ʿUmrah in Dhū al-Qaʿdah of the year seven of the Hijrah. The Prophet ﷺ commanded his companions to prepare for the ʿUmrah and that none of those who had witnessed al-Ḥudaybiyah should remain behind. He appointed Abū Ruhm al-Ghifārī over Madinah, though it is said someone else. The Prophet ﷺ drove sixty—or, it is said, seventy—camels as sacrificial animals. He went out with abundant weaponry, but he did not enter the sanctuary with it; rather, he placed it on the outskirts of the sanctuary, fearing that the polytheists might cause something, so that the weaponry would be close to them, and he placed some of his companions ﷺ over it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Makkah with Ibn Rawāḥah before him reciting poetry to anger the polytheists. The polytheists had supposed that the Muslims had grown weak from the fever of Madinah. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque, he uncovered his right shoulder with his cloak and brought out his right upper arm, then said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who shows them strength from himself." In another narration: "shows them what they dislike." And he commanded the Muslims to jog in the first three circuits and to walk between the two corners, so that the polytheists would see their vigor. After completing his ʿUmrah, the Prophet ﷺ departed from Makkah at the end of the term that was between him and the polytheists. He ﷺ left Abū Rāfiʿ behind to bring his wife Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith to him when evening came. Al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib had given her in marriage to him during this journey of his. Umāmah bt. Ḥamzah ؓ went out with him to Makkah. ʿAlī, Jaʿfar, and Zayd disputed over her custody. The Prophet ﷺ ruled that she belonged to Jaʿfar, because her maternal aunt Asmāʾ was Jaʿfar's wife. The Prophet ﷺ returned to Madinah in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, and praise belongs to Allah.
