Translation
✧ The arrival of Abū Hurayrah and a group from Aws to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at Khaybar Imām Aḥmad narrated, and al-Bukhārī in al-Tārīkh, and in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid by al-Haythamī at the beginning of Khaybar from Khuzaymah, and al-Ṭaḥāwī, and al-Ḥākim, and al-Bayhaqī from Abū Hurayrah ؓ who said: We arrived at Madinah, and we were eighty households from Aws. We prayed the dawn prayer behind Sibāʿ b. ʿUrfuṭah al-Ghifārī, and he recited in the first rakʿah the sūrah of Maryam, and in the last one “Woe to those who give short measure.” When he recited “When they take a measure from people, they take full measure” [al-Muṭaffifīn 2], I said: I left my paternal uncle at al-Sarāh; he had two measures. When he took, he took with the fullest, and when he gave, he gave with the deficient. When we finished our prayer, someone said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is at Khaybar, and he is coming to you. I said: I will never hear of him in any place but that I will come to him. So Sibāʿ b. ʿUrfuṭah provisioned us and carried us until we came to Khaybar. We found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had conquered al-Naṭāh, and he was besieging al-Katībah. We stayed until Allah granted us victory. In another narration: We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after he had conquered Khaybar, and he spoke to the Muslims, so he included us in their shares. And in it: that if reinforcements join the army after the fighting is over, they have no share except with the permission and consent of the army; for the Prophet ﷺ spoke to his companions about the people of the ship when they came to him at Khaybar—Jaʿfar and his companions—that he should assign them a share, and he did assign them one. Al-Bukhārī and Abū Dāwūd narrated from Abū Hurayrah ؓ who said: I came to Madinah while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at Khaybar when he had conquered it. I asked him to assign me a share. He said: Then one of the sons of Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ spoke and said: Do not assign him a share, O Messenger of Allah. He said: I said: This, by Allah, is the killer of Ibn Qawqal. He said: I think he was Abān b. Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ. They both said: How astonishing for a web that dangles upon us from the coming of a sheep; he reproaches me for killing a Muslim man whom Allah honored at my hands, and it was not easy for him at his hands. Al-Bukhārī and Abū Dāwūd narrated from Abū Hurayrah ؓ who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abān on a raiding party from Madinah toward Najd. Abū Hurayrah said: Abān and his companions came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Khaybar after he had conquered it, and the girths of their horses were of palm fiber. He said: O Messenger of Allah, give us a small share. Abū Hurayrah said: O Messenger of Allah, do not divide for them. Abān said: And you are the one saying this, O web that slid down from the head of a maternal uncle—in another wording—so indeed, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “O Abān, sit down,” and he did not divide for them.
