Translation
✧ [The Messenger sacrificed and shaved, and the people followed his example] When he finished the matter of the document, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Arise, sacrifice, then shave." By Allah, not a man among them rose, until he said that three times. That weighed heavily on him, so he entered upon Umm Salamah and said, "The Muslims are ruined. I commanded them to sacrifice and shave, but they did not do it." In another narration: "Do you not see the people? I command them with a command, but they do not do it—while they hear my words and look at my face." She said, "O Messenger of Allah, do not blame them, for a great matter has entered them because of the hardship you imposed upon yourself in the matter of the peace treaty and their returning without conquest. O Prophet of Allah, go out and do not speak a word to anyone until you have sacrificed your camels and called your barber to shave you." So Allah—Exalted is He—relieved the people through Umm Salamah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arose, wrapped his garment under his right arm, went out, took the spear, headed toward his sacrificial animals, and pointed the spear at the camels, raising his voice: "In the name of Allah, and Allah is greatest," and he sacrificed. The Muslims leapt to the sacrificial animals and crowded around them, slaughtering, until some almost fell upon others. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ shared the sacrificial animals among his companions, sacrificing a camel for every seven. The sacrificial animals of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were seventy camels. The sacrificial animals were below the mountains that overlook the valley of al-Thaniyyah. When the polytheists blocked him, he turned the faces of the camels back. Ibn ʿAbbās said: When they were barred from the House, they yearned as they yearn for their young. Narrated by Imām Aḥmad and al-Bayhaqī. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed his camels where they had detained him, which was al-Ḥudaybiyah.
